An Evening With  " Flanders and Swann" in aid of the Family Holiday Association
(the holiday charity for families in need)

on Friday June 6th; 7.30pm at Henrietta Barnett School Theatre

If this gorgeous weather holds out we'll all be glad of something to cool the blood, so on Friday June 6th we are holding a special Evening with " Flanders and Swann"

Michael Flanders and Donald Swann wrote and performed over 80 comic songs together in the 1950s and 1960s, including:
(click on the titles of the songs to lead to Flanders and Swann videos on YouTube)
The Hippopotamus Song (Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud)
The Gnu Song (I'm a gnu, another gnu)
Have Some Madeira M'Dear  (it's really much nicer than beer)
London Omnibus (Big six wheeler, scarlet painted, ninety-seven horsepower omnibus)
and
The Gasman Cometh (this is a video clip using animated Lego figures to illustrate the song!)

Michael Flanders was a resident of the Suburb and a member of the Play and Pageant Union, and the duo used to perform their songs for the Suburb before taking them to a wide audience.
Our Flanders and Swann for the evening will be Michael Mates MP and William Godfree, who have raised over £100,000 for charity in this way and performed at the Royal Opera House.

The Family Holiday Association was founded more than 30 years ago by Garden Suburb Theatre members Pat and Joan Laurance, since when they have helped over 100,000 parents, children and young people to have a holiday. Pat passed away in January this year, aged 88, and we would like to dedicate this performance to his memory.
