THE MISANTHROPE

17TH-23RD APRIL, 2023

@UPSTAIRS AT THE GATEHOUSE

The place is London, the time is now. Celebrated playwright Alceste despises hypocrisy. Unfortunately, he lives in a world of sycophancy and media attention with Jennifer, the woman he loves, at its very centre. No wonder it all unravels in the end. Just like Molière’s original, Martin Crimp’s modern-verse adaptation of The Misanthrope is full of wit and social commentary, only on the 21st rather than the 17th century  ̶̶  or maybe they are not so different.

The Misanthrope by Moliere in a translation by Martin Crimp.

Directed by Nina Meinzer
